Automatic transmission fluid acts as a cleaning wizard for your car’s insides, lubricating, cleaning, and cooling its internal transmission parts and gears. However, over time, additives in the fluid deplete, so it’s important that these fluids are replaced from time to time. At Jiffy Lube®, our transmission fluid change replaces old depleted fluid with new transmission fluid whether your vehicle has a manual or automatic transmission, helping your internal transmission parts and gears work for a smooth ride.

Jiffy Lube® offers multiple services for both automatic and manual transmissions to ensure that any type of vehicle you drive in can be kept in tip-top shape.

For Automatic Transmissions

It’s important to consider a few key components of automatic transmissions: the fluid is meant to lubricate, cool and clean the inside and works to keep the hydraulic pressure at a functioning level.

Drain & Fill

If all that your vehicle’s transmission requires is a drain and fill service, our trained Jiffy Lube® technicians will get rid of all the old automatic transmission fluid through the fill/drain plug, then reinstall the fill/drain plug and add new automatic transmission fluid accordingly.

Transmission Pan & Filter Service

If changing the transmission filter and fluid is called for, Jiffy Lube® technicians will remove the transmission pan, remove the old transmission filter and replace it with a new transmission filter. In the process they will also remove the old gasket material, replace the pan gasket with a new gasket and reinstall the pan, then refill the transmission with new automatic transmission fluid to the proper level.

 Automatic Transmission Fluid Exchange Service

A typical drain and fill service may only remove and replace approximately 25% to 50% of your car’s contaminated transmission fluid. A Jiffy Lube® trained technician may recommend a complete fluid exchange that safely removes most, if not all of the old, contaminated fluid. A Jiffy Lube® trained technician will recommend this service based on your vehicle manufacturer’s maintenance schedule, and use a process that exchanges all the old transmission fluid from the transmission system, including the torque converter and transmission cooler.

Transmission Fluid Exchange and Filter Replacement.

In this service, Jiffy Lube® technicians will replace your automatic transmission filter and fluid (see above) plus any other fluids in the transmission system, including the torque converter and transmission cooler.

Manual-TransmissionFor Manual Transmissions

You may like to switch gears on your own, but you won’t have to worry about taking care of your transmission solo. The fluid here lubricates many of your vehicle’s internal components that can breakdown without proper attention. Fluid contamination can occur and your engine can feel the effects if maintenance is not kept in mind. First, Jiffy Lube® Technicians evacuate the old manual transmission fluid. In some transmissions this is done by simply draining the old fluid. Others require pumping it out. Your Jiffy Lube Technician® has the right equipment for both types of transmissions. Once the old fluid is removed, the Jiffy Lube® Technician refills the manual transmission with the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended type and quantity of new fluid.
